ABA Young Lawyers Division Features eBrevia Account Director Sophiya Volkova

The American Bar Association recently featured our London-based Account Director Sophiya Volkova in its Young Lawyers Division. Trained lawyers at all stages of their careers are contemplating AI’s impact on their work, but the ABA has found that early and mid-career legal professionals are particularly eager to explore dynamic, innovative tech firms like eBrevia.

They asked Sophiya to share her journey like with recent law school grads. Following stints at top UK law firms Ashurst and Macfarlanes, she worked at EY and then transitioned to eBrevia. She spoke about her day-to-day experiences as well as the culture at the company:

Efficiency, creativity, and problem-solving are what matter in a world where technology can handle rote tasks, and that’s what we stand for at eBrevia. For young lawyers, the shift is liberating because your value isn’t just how many hours you can bill. Rather, it’s what you can uniquely bring to the table.

My day-to-day work life is ever-changing. At eBrevia, I can spend two solid hours sourcing leads with LinkedIn, emails, and cold calling. I can also do a product demo and gather client pain points and requirements. Or I can be on the phone with the tech team discussing our product roadmap. Every day, I spend hours online. I read a lot of news on legal tech, AI, M&A deals, and competitors.

Ultimately, what drew me to eBrevia was the company’s culture and how open my colleagues were to new ideas, even those that challenged them. That openness extends to our relationships with clients, and we’re always ready to hear feedback of any flavor. It’s what helps us improve.

She also addressed broader topics on many legal and business professionals’ minds, such as:

  • The walls of the traditional law firm model are no longer the only career path for new lawyers.

  • Clients question whether time is really the best measure of value. Efficiency, creativity, and problem-solving are what matter in a world where technology can handle rote tasks.

  • Law equips you with critical thinking, advocacy, analytical skills, and adaptability, which are in demand in nearly every industry.

  • You may find that your greatest contributions to justice, fairness, and society happen outside the traditional courtroom. That doesn’t make them any less meaningful.
